There’s two ways to make money with your website.
One is to hit people over the head with a “buy, buy, buy” message from the minute they arrive to the minute they leave.
The other way is to create connection and offer value (whether you’re being paid for it right then or not).

When GeoClo and I finally come face to face – he doesn’t stand a chance of passing me by. I got a bunch of suggestions in the Help Me Win George Clooney Pick Up Line contest – some a little racy, some a little sweet but all of them fabulous!
Hard as it was to select the winner, I have to say the Grand Prize (a f’ree copy of the GET MORE LEADS! How to Create Your Irresistible Free Taste and Get It in Your Prospects’ Hands in 21 Days or Less product) goes to. . .

Last week I held a contest about the best Networking Ice Breakers as a tie-in for my upcoming product, “GET MORE LEADS! How to Create Your Irresistible Free Taste and Get It in Your Prospects’ Hands in 21 Days or Less,” due out around the 20th.

Well, now I’ve dreamed up the theme for Contest #2. You’ll understand why I say “dreamed” in a minute.

OK, confession time. I’m going to be attending Ali Brown’s big event in Los Angeles next week and it’s got me in a bit of a lather.
The problem is, I HATE schmoozing – I’m not good at it, I have no patience for it, I shudder at the thought of it.
And yet, I signed up for the event with the intention of –dare I say the word?- networking. (Because, as a card-carrying marketer, I know the importance of putting in face-time even though I resist it.)
So I’m busily scribbling notes on how to introduce myself to someone new, what to say to get the conversational ball rolling, how to talk about what I do without ringing a false note.
No easy task for me. (See, I told you this was a sad story.)
What I’d really like is a ready-made ice breaker that will get me through the 3 days without breaking a sweat.
And that got me thinking about the free giveaway on your website and how it’s kind of like the Ice Breaker for your online networking. VERY important - because we all know that despite what anyone tells us, first impressions DO count.
Your online ice breaker has to IMMEDIATELY communicate to your visitor that they’re in the right place and that you’ve got some great party favors for them. Otherwise they’ll just head off to the shindig at the website next door.
And thinking about THAT sparked a devious little idea for how I can get some help with my schmoozing skills and we can have some fun at the same time.
